Blue Screen on installing AVAST IS on Vista... what to do ?

I’m trying to install AVAST internet security on a machine running Vista.

During the installation process I get a flash of a blue screen (too quick to catch the code or what it says) and the laptop turns off immediately. When I restart I get a blue screen after I enter my Windows password and again the laptop switches itself off.

When I start in safe mode windows will load but AVAST will not turn on. I’ve tried clicking the “FIX” button but nothing happens.Basically I end up with no choice but to uninstall it again.

I’m not thrilled about this as I have paid for the full version.

Any advice anyone ?

Did you have another A/V product installed on this machine before you tried installing avast? If so, you should find the removal tool for that product to make sure it’s fully removed from your computer before trying to install avast.

You may need to go into safe mode, remove avast, then reboot.

Then visit here and follow the directions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Download Avast 5 IS again, and try re-installing http://www.avast.com/internet-security#tab3

Here’s a list of most removal tools. Click me!
*You should uninstall the antivirus program in the add/remove programs in Control panel first and then run the removal tool for the Antivirus for any leftovers because some removal tools are not enough.

What’s the error code since it shows again when restarting? well, I don’t know how come it just flashed and restarted automatically the first time…
Maybe follow the other people’s suggestions and clear any other AV software before res-installing.
You can do this with the help of Windows Install Clean Up. Refer to this website for downloading:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Thanks very much for the replies everyone.

I had AVG free installed on my machine and I uninstalled it as instructed and then ran their cleanup utility. It was after this I tried installing Avast and had the blue screen problem . I have also tried cccleaner as it should remove fragments of uninstalled programs but it was no help.
The uninstaller suggested by ziucqea does not seem to be for Windows Vista.

Is there any other advice I might follow ?

Which other security related software is installed on your system…?

Hi Jeweliette

Can you please email some of the latest minidump files from the Windows\Minidump folder to Petr Kurtin from Avast! : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=profile;u=382

I will notice him about this topic
