Blue Screen

When I boot up with Comodo Firewall 3 it would get to the log in screen and crash with a Blue Screen about a file and I disabled the self protection but the problem remained. I think there is a conflict with Comodo Firewall Version 3. What could be happening? It is happening with Avast 4.8 Home.

Check the Windows\Minidump folder - there should be a recent file there, corresponding to the bluescreen.
Send this file to Vlk’s e-mail with a link to this thread, please.

Also, can you post the details (error numbers) of the BSOD?

I’ve got similar problem but my BSOD happens only when VRDB process is running. On the bluescreen i can see that nvatabus.sys driver is the “problem”. I also have Comodo3 running but i didn’t have BSOD when i disabled VRDB.
PS. I can’t send my minidump because i disabled this with nLite. (XP SP3 v5503 with Raid-0 nForce4)

Seems a problem with NVidia driver and avast…

The File that was causing a Blue Screen is: aswsp.sys
Thank you for your input.

This file seems to be avast! self protection module if it is digitally signed here C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\

If you disable the self protection module (Troubleshooting page of avast settings), will it help?

I tried that but the problem remained and I uninstalled the firewall. It works perfectly.

Hi Cutie Mark Surprise,

thanks for the dump.
I have to confirm that this is indeed a bug in the aswSP.sys driver. Comodo is triggering it, but seems to be innocent (the crash is caused by our driver).

BTW do you happen to have Driver Verifier enabled? IMHO the crash would only take place with it enabled…

Thanks
Vlk

Will we have an update (program update) due to this bug?
There are a lot of Comodo + avast users…

I have Windows Xp Home. Where is that at? You’re very welcome.

Well, IMHO the problem will only happen if so-called Special Pool is enabled. This is normally (out of the box) not the case.
Cutie, does Special Pool ring a bell to you? I have to say that normal mere mortals usually don’t mess with these things. Are you a programmer? Or maybe it was enabled by some application that you installed on your system (and you don’t even know about it)?

Thanks
Vlk

It doesn’t and I’m not a programmer. Where can I find that at? Just Curious.

Can you please post a screenshot of the window that appears when you run this program: http://public.avast.com/~vlk/gflags.exe

Thanks
Vlk

Here is the screenshot: What is this program supposed to do? Just curious. I hope there will be a fix for this bug.
