I have been getting a blue screen randomly over the past month since the upgrade. Computer will just shut down by itself. I was referred here by computer help forum as they checked my dmp file and said it could be from AVAST but not sure.
I can send the files in attachment if needed. Most recent being from today(Mini060111-01.dmp.)
I was not able to find in forums any “fix” for this as of yet.
Using Internet Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don’t have read access to this folder.
Or
Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this
explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.
What avast version did you have previously (free/home, etc. including version) ?
What avast version did you install Free/Pro/Avast Internet Security suite ?
How did you upgrade, uninstall previous version install new or installed new (avast 6.0.1125 version).
I’ve had Free Avast! for past 2 years just uninstalled then reinstalled new version.
Computer Info:
Desktop
Dell Inspiron Intel Core2 duo E7200 @2.53ghz
RAM: 3.00 GB
System type: 32-bit Operating Sytem
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1
I use windows explorer
Firewall- Zone Alarm
Anti Virus - AVAST!
Malware bytes
Spybot Search and Destroy
Super Anti-Spyware
SpywareBlaster
Whilst there shouldn’t be anything there which I would think would cause a BSOD, I would suggest that you uninstall spybot S&D given that you have MBAM and SAS, both of which I feel are better. S&D if you had the Teatimer resident function enabled has caused issues with avast in the past, but not to the point of a BSOD.
Are the MBAM and SAS applications the free versions or are they the Pro version ?
There are some that like zone alarm and many that don’t, I fall into that camp as I feel if you have the latest version (you didn’t say what you have, ZA free or ZA Pro ?) is bloated and doesn’t provide as good protection as some other firewalls.
Other than this we are unfortunately going to have to wait any results from the minidump files.
I can’t say exactly what will happen as I’m just and avast user like yourself, hopefully they will be posted in the topic, but it rather depends on what information was in the uploaded file.
That is what has happened in the past and why I normally suggest adding the topic URL to the readme.txt file included with the minidump files in the zip file.
I don’t know if you had seen that in other topics when you were trying to find a fix, so I will post that general information here:
Upload any minidump or memory.dmp files, zipped to reduce size. Give the zip file you are uploading a unique name (e.g. kmayc79-mem-dump.zip, etc), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, avast topic URL, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file.
So if you didn’t provide that information, they will be unable to identify who it was from and what topic, so you might want to upload it again.
