Since Avast updated to 6.0.1000 later (except 6.0.1000), a bluescreen crash caused by aswsp.sys (seems to be a driver file of self-defense module) gets me confused. At first, all thrid-part firewall software has to be uninstalled to keep on using Avast. But now avast itself runs well only if aswsp.sys has been forbidden or overwritten with the version older before 6.0.1000 (actual file version 6.0.999). Is there any other way except setting aswsp.sys read-only updating Avast to date? The OS is Windows XP SP3.
BTW is topic search supported in this Avast forum?
eh…
Avast Free 6.0
Any version of 6.0.1000 newer. Maybe more.
It seems to a common problem of all versions and editions.
Well, thanks!
There are no better solutions than waiting for official hotfix, I think. Ha.
Got it.
I’ve just searched with the keyword “aswsp” in this forum.
Offical reply said, “confirmed, it’s a bug in aswsp.sys - we’ll fix it”.
The newest version 1203 doesn’t contain any improvement about this problem.
So …
Thank you!
It took me several quarters to try reinstalling 6.0.1203 as your suggestion just now.
So badly this bug has not been fixed.
Reinstallation will be of no use including clean install as you said.
Because this bug is completely caused by the file aswsp.sys itself.
Do you really confirm this bug has been fixed in aswsp.sys of new version 6.0.1203?
At least there is not any defination about it in the offcial anouncement news above.
According to another topic, only bugs of aswsnx.sys have been fixed.
Aswsp.sys is not mentioned at all.
Anyway thanks for your reply.
