In the 3rd reply in this thread, I wrote him what caused the problem and what he should do. I still believe, updating of avast (from 523 build?) couldn’t fix his BSOD in norman driver. I dont remember we would do significant changes in aswTdi.sys

I told that my problem was solved and thankt your team (twice!)I just finished reading this thread and am a little confused. The advice given to you specifically stated to either Update your Firewall or Change to a different one or your problem will return. Since you did neither, how can your problem be solved?
I don’t know either but I will give some more background info:
I uninstalled some time before my first bluescreen Iolo System Mechanic.
After that I got several times a scandisk before Windows was starting up, but the scandisk never found a error.
I did a complete scandisk with surfacescan (no errors) and after that I did a defragmentation.
Since that moment the scandisk problem is solved and my blue screen problem too.
I didn’t mention that before because I dont’s saw a link (sorry :'().
Maybe it fixed something. ???
The truth is that both problems are solved now.
And I’m verry happy now ![]()

I'm verry happy now :DJust remember this thread when your problem returns. Unless you either update your firewall or change to a different one, Your problem will return.
I’m workling with computers since 1980 and I learned that computers are not always behave very logical ![]()
Updated today to 4.5.549 and the old blue-screen problem returned. :o
It has something to do with Avast.
Each update there is a new problem. ???

Is it save to stick to an old version (4.1.501)?
Otherwise I have to look for another Free Virusscanner.
Better read that thread, especially my last post there ![]()
My start sequence is optimal jet: XP starts in 20 seconds. ;D
(I’m using bootvis)
All aplications are careful implanted, some in automatic en some in system mode.
Don’t want to mess it up.
I’m now using Avast 4.1.501, works great.
I will try every update in the future and when I’ve got problems I will return to 4.1.501
btw: where can I find a list with update fixes/changes?
You don’t have too…
We’re trying to improve and not move backward 8)

Did you Update your Firewall or Change to a different one as you where advised very early on in this thread?
No, I rather change my virusscanner, because changing from AVG to Avast was my latest software action.
Updating my firewall is not an option because I can't register my free versionThe real problem (as even Norman admits) is the firewall. Changing to another av doesn't change the culprit that is causing the bsod. Changing to another (free) software firewall or getting a router/firewall is the solution to your problem.
Norman PF is for me the best free firewall ever (tried them all).
Changing is no option.
I’m now using Avast 4.1.501 and thats no problem at all.
Avast versions higher then 4.1.501 are also locking and freezing up my computer (I’m not the only one with that problem) so I won’t install that anyway.
(and that’s no NPF problem ;D)
So if 4.1.501 is not save anymore, please tell me and I will go back to AVG.
Strange but I think this is not the reason… changing the av won’t be the solution. Your problem will still be there, want you or not… We must discover what is in conflict: firewall, a low-level security application (or backup like Norton GoBack)… :![]()
It’s so easy.
Avast installed: blue screen
Avast not installed: no blue screen
NPF may have a problem but Avast is triggering it!
Updating Norman solves it !!
You are hitting a tree with your car because you can’t drive. So removing the tree is the solution according to you.
We say: Learn to drive.
wdv
This has become an exercise in futility.
wdv: I got answer from Norman Personal Firewall team you should upgrade your firewall to v1.42 version, because they had some problems with TDi driver in v1.3 which you're using. If you have other problems with NPF in future, please let me know.
You received this reply in Reply #2 of this thread back on 11/18/04 and you still haven’t learned. It’s not possible to help someone who wouldn’t accept help. IMHO, it’s a waste of time to give advise to a person who refuses to even make an attempt to try a perfectly valid suggestion.
Sorry but this leads to nothing. ![]()
NPF is NOT the problem anymore!
I did refer to my other problem with the freezing problem because that’s the main reason for not using the newest Avast versions.
I removed NPF but that (freezing) problem stayed!
So please FORGET NPF en just tel me or Avast 4.1.501 is save to use.
(is there a important new facility in newer versions?)
I did not find any information about that.
I agree in that reply #2 pretty much said it all as to the problem/s. If wdv wishes perhaps he should go back to AVG? Then he can try and get forum tech support or help with them. Who knows? Perhaps if that can be done he can resolve his issue. ![]()
I’ve got similar problem. Avast installs OK but machine won’t boot. I get two different messages on blue screen…either Unknown hard error or bad pool caller. I also use Kerio. Had no problems with either till I updated to ver 4.5 Avast.
Using Win Xp home.
I can uninstall in safe mode & machine boots OK.
