Boot hangs after "Unauthorized change made to AvastUI" - run [yes] or [no]

I am running WinXP Pro x64

I received the above notification after “updating” Avast (free).

I clicked on “no” and the system proceeded to boot.

After the Windows splash screen, all I got was a blank (black) screen with a mouse cursor.

After several attempts to reboot, same thing occurred.

After rebooting to [F8] Safe Mode, I attempted to Uninstall Avast through both Control Panel and using CCleaner, but the uninstall ‘hangs’ and does not complete.

I then “restored” to a point 2 days before the update and problem.

After I rebooted I got the same notice but when I selected “yes” (instead of no), I got the same result.

After additional reboots, the error message does not come up but the problem still exists.

I have backed up my data and program settings through Safe Mode, but would rather ‘fix’ this than re-install Windows.

HOW do I uninstall/remove Avast in Safe Mode or via the Restore Console without having to nuke my install of Windows??

Thank you.

If Avast will not uninstall from normal mode then run the Avast uninstall tool, that will take you to safe mode and uninstall it

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstalltool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[
]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

THANK YOU !!

I figured there had to be such a tool, but could not find it…

I will post an update once I attempt / complete this.
