I recently downloaded the trial for Win7 64 and ran a boot scan. I saw messages about files being corrupt during the scan, was not given an option for action, and did not see any reference to any of the files that Avast said were corrupt in the Boot Scan log.
I’m looking to find out why there were no messages written to the log about what the software found during the boot scan
Avast is just telling you that a file is corrupted and cannot be scanned, as it is corrupted then it is of no danger to you
Thanks Essexboy
Not sure if it would be best practice but certainly nice to know file name and location so that I could address it personally either by deleting it or whatever.
IMHO it is useless code to give a message like that to the screen and not log it for later viewing. The scan too several hours and I did not sit here in front of the screen watching it. Who knows how many others it labeled as corrupt. I would be curious too in knowing what the code criteria was that flagged it as corrupt.
Not really something that you want to deal with, if it is even possible to deal with it, the program that created it may well be able to unpack it.
- Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is little/nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file. This I wouldn’t recommend (especially if this is for archives in the \System Volume Information folder, part of the system restore function) unless you are getting problems relating to that file outside of the avast scan.

Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt file (XP location) C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt (Vista, Win7 location), check this file using notepad for info on the scan/detections, etc. You have to do that before you schedule another boot-time scan as it overwrites the file.
bingo!
Thanks David…got the info - C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt.
I’ll deal with the archived junk.
You’re welcome.
