Boot time scan and Windows 7 64 bit

When I was running Avast! A/V Pro on my XP and Vista OS’s I could do a boot time scan which I thought was great. However, with my upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition, it isn’t even an option. What are the chances of a boot time scan on the 64-bit machines becoming a reality? Other than that, my Avast! Internet Suite is fabulous.

There will be a boot time scan as on what the others on here have told me and many others too that there will be a boot time scan for 64-bit computers in version 5.1

Yes, it’s true, the boo time scan for 64 bit OS’es will be available in the 5.1 version of avast wich is coming very very soon

I know this is an older thread but I’m wondering if there is an eta for the 64 bit boot scan?
I just purchased the 2-year internet protection and then realized I can’t do the boot scan on my Win7 64 bit machine.
And until avast releases theirs, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on what to use in the mean time?
I have a sneaking suspicion something is off with my Win7 machine.
I’ve already done a reformat, but it sure is sluggish, flashes, closes & opens windows, and just has bad behavior. Avast hasn’t found anything so could it be in my BIOS or hidden somewhere that avast isn’t looking?
Any help is appreciated.

Hello K00w–1,

Avast 5.1 is already in beta which has the boot time scan. It will hopefully released before next year or in the first week of the same.
But, you don’t have to wait until the boot time scan comes to scan your pc.

  1. Start a new thread in the viruses and worms forums.
  2. Follow the instructions given in the “first post” of this thread by essexboy.
  3. Post the link to your thread in the Logs to assist in cleaning malware topic so that essexboy knows that someone’s waiting for him.

Just wondering what the status is of the 64-bit boot time scan? ???

what status ???

Already released on version 5.1. Upgrade

yeah I had doubts whether he knew or not that 5.1 was out… but as he used the word “status” I thought he might be referring to the UI status bar for components… and not to availability status.

Great!!! Now I can run it. I always felt more comfortable with a scan at that level being done at least once a year or more often.

Thank you for the prompt response to my query.

yeah don’t be too excited about that it’s freakin’ slow ;D

Works fine on my PC, but still it won’t run on the Laptop without locking up. Frustrating to say the least! >:(

What is locking up - the boot-time scan?
When/how?

Both the Full System Scan (FSS) and the Boot Time scan, about 2/3’s the way thru. More often then not I’m seeing a reference to Purbleplace.dll in c:\windows\winsxs. If not that specific file, then is another in the winsxs directory. However, if I run the FSS in safe mode, it goes all the way. I am totally baffled. Well, as long as the Laptop is new and I haven’t done that much on it yet, I am doing a recovery to see if that helps.

I always felt more comfortable with a scan at that level being done........
Why ?

How does it freeze - the whole machine? Does the mouse cursor move, or is that frozen too?

Why? I always felt that such a scan is run without any OS interference and is more complete and thorough.

The boot-time scanner is an expert feature, and was designed to be used when there’s something bad going on on the system. And in these cases, I’d say that having to actually select the actions manually is a small price to pay.
