Hi folks, I have been using Avast for ages and I was one very happy bunny for years.
Anyways, I’ve noticed in the past few weeks my laptop behaving strangely. I attempted to update my drivers and got some infection in the process. I also stupidly switched off the system restore, which is something I hardly ever do.A big mistake it seems.
I run the Avast scan, it showed some trojan (don’t remember the name), I put it the chest - I checked again a few days later, it’s not there. Malwarebytes showed nothing, I run Unhack me and there it was - something I’ve never heard of - called ‘TDL4.3’ rootkit. A quick search on the internet and I realised I was dealing with a real nasty piece of work. I did a few scans with Kapserky TDSS killer, Malwarebytes, HitMan Pro - they all showed nothing. I then downloaded Avast-antiroot (aswMBR) but the scan would crash after a while, I tried it a few times, it crashed everytime. I read somewhere an advice to rename it to iexplore.exe in case that happens, as the bootkit detects its presence. That did not work either. After visiting different forums, I found a suggestion what to do - So I run ‘Repair the computer’ from the installation disc and did ‘FixMbr manually’. After that, ‘Unhack me’ showed it was clean, Malwarebytes as well as ComboFix showed nothing. I thought that was it. So, I tried to run the Avast Antirootkit again - and here we go, the same is happening, it just keeps crashing if I do the full scan - the quick scan actually finished and showed nothing. I don’t know what to do. The scans including the Avast antivirus are all coming clean now but the fact that Avast-antiroot is crashing still, makes me suspicious. Any ideas? Thank you.
HI depechebambina, seems I’m having the same problem… did you solve it? and how.
