Broken iPhone

I recently purchased an iPhone, in order to sync it I had to install iTunes 9.2. Only problem is that when I plug it in to sync it iTunes freezes completely until I unplug it. I noticed that when I have Avast! shields disabled that it syncs with no problem at all.

Can anyone recommend a fix to this problem? I really like the Avast! AV suite, but I gotta be able to use my phone. :frowning:

Hello NoseIntheWind and welcome to the forum.

There have been previous known issues with Apple and iTunes that were mentioned here on the forum: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=64142.15.

I know that iTunes 10.x fixed a security issue, but there are still problems with it. The Apple tech support and knowledge base articles would be my recommendation for your best answers. They may have you upgrade to iTunes 10.x first to see if that resolves the problem and check your Internet connection to make sure nothing is being blocked with your firewall. If you get any error codes when trying to sync, look them up in the Apple or iTunes error code logs to see what they mean and you can trouble-shoot from there. If this was a newly purchased phone, esp. an iPhone4, you may need to go to the Apple Genius Bar for further trouble-shooting (make an appt. to save time) or they can swap your phone out if they determine you have a defective phone (there are many out there!); if not defective make sure they do all the upgrades for you at that time. If you do not live near an Apple Store to do diagnostics, you can create a tech support ticket online and they can do many things with you over the phone as long as you are in front of the PC.

I’ve already run through the entire troubleshooting process listed on Apple’s website. Also I tried iTunes 10 with no success, finally it’s an iPhone 3G not, iPhone 4.

The problem is obviously something in the Avast software as everything functions normally in its absence. As I said, I really like this software suite, but I have to be able to use my phone.

I understand that you have to be able to use your phone, and this can be a very frustrating issue.

You are probably getting an error code when you are trying to sync, which will give much needed information for the Apple tech. support team for them to help you. Did you contact Apple tech support by phone http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ or you can email them to put a ticket in? If this is a new phone, it is free support. I would start with them, and they are very quick to respond.

I still recommend contacting Apple for your problem as I do not believe your problem is related to Avast. However you are welcome to submit a technical support ticket in with Avast: http://www.avast.com/contacts. While you are waiting for Avast to respond, I would call Apple tech. support. Thank you.

I just can’t follow your logic on that… Problem appears when Avast is installed, and doesn’t when it’s not… Please explain to me how it makes any sense that the phone is the problem?

I did not say that the phone is the problem.

Have you put a tech. support ticket in yet with either Avast or Apple?
