If the error when you tried the Repair was you need to download the full update (or words to that effect), you need to do that.
- avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 31MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
Note: Ignore the file name in the images of the page that is displayed after clicking the download link, they are for the main program, not for vpsupd.exe which will be downloaded.
If that doesn’t resolve it then a reinstall is the next option.
I had this same problem yesterday and this morning. From the knowledge base (article 26)
First, try to update the avast! program manually.
If the manual update completes successfully, the problem should be fixed and the next time there is an update available, the automatic update should work.
If you are unable to update avast! program manually, the best solution is to reinstall avast! completely (using the current version, available on our website).
My manual update was successful however the error still pops up. I can only wait until the next automatic update to be sure. If I can remember, I’ll respond back to this if it does in fact work.
