Browser add on (Web of Trust)

I have noticed when I have Firefox installed on the computer, I get a warning about Web Of Trust (wot) add on. Bad reputation, warning in Avast Smart Scan.

I have the same add on in Chrome no warning, when I do a Avast Smart Scan, Now that I have reinstalled Firefox warning back again.

I backed up my Firefox bookmarks then I did a clean install of Firefox and had no issues with the WOT add-on.
Are you on the latest version of FF v56.0.2 ? FYI I’m running the 64 bit version.
What happens if you try a clean install of Firefox?

There are some who would agree that WOT has a bad Rep, not sure if you are aware of the stink some months back about WOT. Many dropped it right there and then.

If you feel happy to look after your browser add-on security, you can remove the Browser CleanUp component in Avast.

About that ‘stink’, you can read further here: https://forum.avast.com/?topic=192618.15
as we went over it in depth in that thread.

You may now use this alternative: Webutation,
and of course you can submit to Avast Online Security extension.

One more thing…are you running a final release of Firefox or a nightly or ESR?

Thanks for you reply
The last stable version I used was FF v56.0.1 and now I am using FF beta version 57.0b12, ran a smart scan still getting avast warning about WOT.
I am using WIN 10 Pro 64 bit

Thanks for your reply
Yes I read about the stink with wot.
Thanks for showing how to turn off Web Browser reputation

Thanks for your reply
Good Read

I uninstalled Firefox on the 4 November no warnings about WOT.
Reinstalled Firefox version 57.0 on the 17 November, on both computers. First smart scan warning about wot, on both computers.

Have now sent a ticket as something wrong somewhere.

Thanks for your reply, have read this already.

My question is I have wot installed in chrome no warning.
The moment I install Firefox I receive warnings.

Surely if avast is saying WOT has a bad reputation, it should not matter, what browser I am using.

Reply from Avast

I am afraid you are receiving this warning as Web Of Trust has received a poor rating within the Firefox community,

This is why you are receiving this warning within Firefox and not within Chrome,

It isnt as they perform the same task as my colleague on our level 1 said,

You could select the option to “skip”, but I am afraid this will flag up again when you run the scan,

This points out that the ratings aren’t from Avast. That wasn’t my understanding when
the Avast Online Security module was first developed.
It was my understanding that Avast would use the outside ratings and it’s own determination to make a final ruling
as to good or bad. Apparently that’s not happening. :frowning:
