The only search provider used in Chrome (default browser) is Google.
Following the advice offered by Avast results in a reset of my Search provider to Bing
and a Home page of Yahoo.
The initial screen never mentions what the search provider is that has a poor reputation ???
This problem has also been around for a very long time and needs to finally be fixed.
If it can’t be fixed, then it’s time to scrap a tool that breaks your browser instead of fixing it.
I think exactly the same. There are quite some complains about removing crap and adding new ones.
Other complain about friends of mine is that Avast does not say “what’s wrong”, “what will be uninstalled”… See GrimeFighter… People start to become scared, really, believe me.
These types of thing are exactly why on a custom install I uncheck Browser Cleanup, GrimeFighter, I only allow the Software Updater, as it tells you what is what and you can control what to update, etc. etc.
+1 The whole purpose of the Browser Cleanup tool is to clean and not alter
a users preferences. Another issue is that it flags some safe add-ons as
having negative reviews. I couldn’t care less about “popularity” reviews.
What I do care about is the safety of my add-ons based upon how “secure”
my add-ons are. I use one, “Scan URL with” a lot and it’s secure but avast
seems to base the BC on popularity “reviews” and so it gets flagged. I soon
uninstalled the Browser Cleanup tool.
