Browser opens when PC unattended

Hi,

A friend of mine recently reported to me that his Chrome browser popped up whilst his PC was unattended and had a URL that he did not recognise.

Upon hearing this I updated my Java, disabled it in Chrome and installed an Ad Blocker in Chrome. Last night I also ran a full Avast deep scan and came up clean.

Today I decided to update Zonealarm and I left the room for several minutes whilst this was going on. I came back to find Firefox had started up.

I have run Spybot search and destroy and all it found were tracking cookies so I am wondering what happened and whether there is a now exploit that Avast cannot yet detect.

Cheers

Baz

I came back to find Firefox had started up.
Opened up to which website ???

I didn’t see the URL unfortunately I just closed and ran Spybot

spybot is waste of disk space. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2412372,00.asp

In testing, it proved almost 100 percent ineffective.

use malwarebytes as extra scanner

It would have been good if you had looked before you leaped. ;D
It’s quite possible that the opening of your browser was related to a program installation
or some other reason such as an update. In which case, the action was normal and not Malware related.
Probably why none of your scans have revealed anything.
