This is my first time dong something like this , but I am a soul lost in a VERY LARGE FOREST AND NEED HEALP TO FIND MY WAY OUT!! I am having a large problem with “browser redirect”. I type in Yahoo, and end up in Timbuktu. I have run a Hijack This file. but can only stare at it. I need help to figure out what to do!

Have you tried a scan with Avast? If not please do so or you can also try

I suggest:

  1. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  4. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

I’m the lucky owner yet another Win32:Trojan-gen {Other} virus. Vps Version 080821-0, 21-08-2008. I’ve tried running a boot scan with no luck. You all recommend turning off System Restore before doing so. How the heck can this be done!?

It would be best to start a new topic of your own as we don’t know what the problem is of the original poster but it is unlikely to be the same as yours, so that confuses the topic.

When you do create your own topic, answer this question.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
