I just upgraded free version to 6.0.1125 a few days ago and still get an occasional BSOD at startup just like in 6.0.0119. I ran who crashed and got this same as before.
On Thu 5/12/2011 11:51:03 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\051211-13213-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: aswsp.sys (aswSP+0x44640)
Bugcheck code: 0xE3 (0xFFFFF8800491B640, 0xFFFFFA80088AB690, 0x0, 0x2)
Error: RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswsp.sys
product: avast! Antivirus System
company: AVAST Software
description: avast! self protection module
Bug check description: This indicates that a thread tried to release a resource it did not own.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswsp.sys (avast! self protection module, AVAST Software).
Google query: aswsp.sys AVAST Software RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
Upload any minidump or memory.dmp files, zipped to reduce size. Give the zip file you are uploading a unique name (e.g. m0unds-mem-dump.zip, etc), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, avast topic, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file.
Using Internet Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don’t have read access to this folder.
Or
Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this
explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.
Thanks David I just uploaded it. I suspect it’s a time issue between closing windows and clicking shutdown. It’s sporadic and annoying. Otherwise there doesn’t seem to be any problems.
Joe
It is in the System Properties, Startup and Recovery (in XP, don’t know what the equivalent for win7), Write debugging information and select Kernel memory dump.
