BSOD

I’m running Win XP Pro with Avast 4 home edition. Since the last update, 21 June, I’ve had 4 or 5 random BSOD’s. The problem file, according to BSOD text is aswMon2.sys

I uninstalled Avast & when reinstalling, Avast complained that I had Norton AV installed, this was nonsense, I have never installed NAV on this machine! I gathered it must be something to do with Symantec so I uninstalled Pcanywhere & Avast installed ok. I’ve since had another BSOD though :frowning:

Just had another BSOD, >:(, I’ll have to try another AV :frowning:

Please send me the minidump file that gets generated during the BSOD. Should be in \Windows\MiniDump.

Thanks
Vlk

I’ve got 6 MINIxxxx.dmp files, if thats any good

They have the date in their name - just pick any of them from today…

BTW you’ve never had such a problem before the last update?

Vlk

No, its been ok, no problems at all.

Additional info -
I uninstalled Avast, used jv16pt to check the registry, removed 1 Avast entry.

Tried to reinstall but avast said that I already had a vc. Checked c:\program files - no vc found. Checked registry - 1 entry, Mcafee pointing to c:\documents & settings\account name. I have never used Mcafee vc! Removd reg entry

Tried to reinstall again, but Avast said I had Norton VC, I haven’t used NAV for 2 years & it hasn’t been on this pc! So, I uninstalled Symantec Pcanywhere & removed the reg entries.

Reinstalled Avast ok, but still BSOD…

Clank,
thanks for the files. How much memory does your computer have? Do you often run in very low memory conditions?

I have checked the dumps, and they happen in situations where allocation from the system memory pool fails - which is very bad thing in a driver…

Vlk

512mb DDR, 1900+ AthlonXP. There shouldn’t be a problem, should there?

I’ve got another min.dmp file if you want it…

I sent you an e-mail with a test version of the driver. Please let me know how it works (if it does it, please send me the minidump again).

Thanks
Vlk

PS. Half a gig o’ RAM? Gee, that should really be totally enough. Anyway, what is your typical memory consumption? (look e.g. in the Task Manager). And when the BSOD’s happened, were you running any memory-intensive apps?

Ok, I’ve installed the new file - thankyou.

As for low memory, no memory intensive apps were running.

This is a client pc on a home network, the following apps were running,
IE6, The Bat (email), Sygate Pers FW Pro, CloneCD (tray icon), AnalogX Cookie Wall, Meaya Popup Ad Filter.

I has BSOD when I was using IE, it gradually slowed down & wouldn’t display a page properly before BSOD.

Just checked availble memory - 270mb at the moment
