There was some Posts here earlier on Bufferzone Pro which is being offered free with no definate answers…Was curious and wanted to give it a test try out…but Avast caught it as (Virus) before I even got a chance to download it…
Not too familiar with Bufferzone any suggestions would be welcome, and any ideas on it or latest developments or is anything being done on compatibillity with Avast…
Thanxs in advance for any details…
I could download it here but it got a PUP block on arrival ;D
… then I did a manual scan of the file, threat got detected, but I got an access denied when attempting to delete or send to chest. Thought that was because of the first blocking, but I could just delete the file manually. No idea why sending to Chest didn’t work.
edit: and yes this was downloaded from the original site. Also, wondering why the webshield waited for the download to complete to block the file ??? ( the download was done in Chrome) how come the connection wasn’t aborted? I guess that’s the behavior for PUPs… as there’s no way to detect a program as such unless it has been already fully downloaded.
edit: as to the VNC mention in the alert, anything to do with remote controlled systems?
why not? it’ll always be time to investigate about a PUP FP if any, in the meantime if you don’t mind, I’ll keep PUP detection enabled on all shields … now set it to ask if it makes you feel better. 99.99% of my downloads don’t contain anything suspicious, and I’m ready to take the FP risk for the remaining 0.01% ;D
As to the file in question, tested here, I’ve emailed Vlk and I’m still expecting his comments here. Could be that it’s an FP, no idea…
Why not? E.g. because once you have enabled it and downloaded some 200+ megs of Nero updates, it will get wiped right before the download would be over, guess why - yeah, they bundle (optional) Ask.com toolbar.
As for Bufferzone Pro - I have downloaded it a couple of days ago. It has TeamViewer bundled - an RDP alternative, completely harmless but potentially unwanted. There. Do not enable PUP and complain afterwards.
oh okay… got a 100Mb/s connection here, so I’ll stick to my settings, re-downloading if needed is just not a problem As to teamviewer, again no idea… it’s detected as a VNC it seems… most likely harmless as long as you control it. No idea what it does bundled there… and I don’t care to be honest, main thing being that it’s coming like you said bundled… thru a web site called…hmm… trustware… and it does definitely deserve the PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program)label.
Thanxs Logos!!!For Clearifying most of the work for me… And Thanxs for a great suggestion, Doktormotor …I will try disabling the Pup in the Webshield…At least until or if this gets fixed…
Just wondering Doktormotor you said you have it downloaded now a few days…What is your opinion of Bufferzone and does it block any services from running or how well does it work with other software…Does it slow down your comp.?..Like I’m Using Opera browser 99% of the time…Thanxs again…
Cheers!!! and Safe surfing!!!
