Bug in Sandbox with Google Chrome (Avast IS 5.0.396)

All Hi. I recently discovered a very nasty bug in the module sandbox. When enabled virtualization in Google Chrome, it refuses to work Adobe Flash Player.
P.S. Sorry for my English, I’m from Ukraine

I have the same issue, google chrome and avast sandbox, when i go on youtube it says i need the latest adobe flash player, so i download it and install but it fixes nothing!

I’ve just encountered the same bug in 5.0.504

I don’t have this problem >>> may be because I’m running the dev version of Chrome (5.0.375.3), with flashplayer (10.1RC) integration…

edit: and again guys, Chrome is already sandboxed, you don’t need to use yet another sandboxing process with it ;D

Yes, just now I encountrered this bug in 5.0.342.9

i have this problem and i’m running 5.0.507

Some fixes were made, read here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=59223.30

nope im using the 5.0.533 pre release and get this, says i either got java script turned off or a old version of flash(i dont)?cant watch videos online

@ bri

Just having AIS in your signature does not provide enough information for pertinent help.

Add system information like my signature so that the helpers can assist further.

its not my system its the sandbox and chrome?
win 7 64 ais/rollback
win vista 32 ais/rollback

pk any news on this issue?im using 5.0.545 and cant watch online videos says java script turned off or old version of flash.

Google Chrome already has its own sandbox. If you edit the shortcut and add --safer-plugins to it, it will run all the plugins sandboxed as well. So, I’d suggest doing that for now and turning off the sandboxing in Chrome in AIS if you can’t live w/o youtube ;D

at least, I’m not the only one anymore mentioning it on these forums  I’ve repeated that a few times, also linking to a description page http://blog.chromium.org/2008/10/new-approach-to-browser-security-google.html …but people kept asking about sandboxing Chrome with Avast.
Okay, this said, thanks about the shortcut argument, I didn’t know this one.

edit: just found http://www.chromeplugins.org/tips-tricks/chrome-command-line-switches/

edit: I should have added, since the last few builds from 5.0, Chrome comes with FlashPlayer 10.1 integrated
http://blog.chromium.org/2010/03/bringing-improved-support-for-adobe.html

which should lead to this soon or later:

With Adobe's help, we plan to further protect users by extending Chrome's "sandbox" to web pages with Flash content

edit: noticing now that I posted already in this thread ::slight_smile: (found the thread today by clicking on new posts and not new replies…)

chromes sandbox is nothing like avast sandbox or sandboxie its more for privacy in browsing.it has nothing to do with living without you tube as im not the one on it my kid is and its annoying when i paid for ais because of the sandbox and ive had nothing but compatibility problems with chrome and ie.

Well, nope… It has very much to do with security and very little with privacy. Please read the sandbox design document. Also, The Security Architecture of the Chromium Browser - that’s a 2008 paper so rather outdated but still illustrates the point pretty well - chrome sandbox IS like Avast sandbox.

i dont need to read it i used it and its nothing like sandboxie or avast sandbox.whatever this is my opinion and thats yours.

you can’t talk like that without reading anything ::slight_smile:

Sigh… well, pointless debate in such case. Fact being that Chrome sandbox is very close to what you get when you run say Firefox w/ Drop Rights in SBIE.

if im using chrome and i go to a site and a popup shows and says you need to run this file(malware) and i hit run(installing the file) your telling me that the file i just ran/installed would be virtualized just using chrome?well the answer is no.see avast sandbox and sandboxie do this they virtualize everything in the browser not just block cookies and privacy stuff.maybe you guys/gals whatever are misunderstanding me on what im talking about with the sandbox?chrome does not block/virtualize any kind of downloads i tested it and easily got infected with chrome.im not arguing with ya im just trying to see if chrome has some feature that im not seeing if your talking about incognito mode thats not a sandbox like im talking about.so no need to sigh if its a pointless debate stay out.

No, I’m not talking about incognito (duh!) and yes, Chrome sandbox has lots of features you are not seeing, certainly not “for privacy in browsing”
