Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

So now back on PC cos laptop in freefall, the mouse goes like he has had 15 glasses of wine then nothing responds, am currently restarting it, again!

OK could you run the fix from safe mode and it should run faster

‘safe mode’? please instruct me as though I was an idiot, cos in computer speak, I am

OK reboot the computer and immediately press and hold the F8 key a menu will appear
Select safe mode
The desktop will look weird
Then run OTL fix from there

right, I understand but the OTL fix did finish and I saved it, now I am simply trying to open after the reboot to go to avast to speak to you from that wretched laptop  will keep trying

mouse apparently is acting like its had 22 tequila slammers due to a “long running script” whatever that is, hope that helps, here is the scan, and i have been at this continuously so you can see how slow the ********dy thing is  oh and just as its about to go into meltdown, each time, it makesa terrible scritching noise, in case that helps
am back on laptop though am expecting a DNR notice to come up and its only 3 years old!

well, essex boy, I’m guessing you’ve gone to bed, don’t blame you, will check in, in a little while, or tomorrow if this mechanical nightmare lets me :-*

The scratching sound … Is that coming from the hard drive area ? It might be advisable to make a backup of your data
What is the make and model of the laptop

HP G62 Notebook Intel Core windows 7 and I don’t know how to do a back up :-[

Seems I’ve got 3 drives, c local d system recovery and e hp tools, there also seems to be an f drive where it wants to back up but that is disconnected

OK lets test the hard drive

Perform a Hard Drive test
To perform the Hard Drive Test in the System Diagnostics (F2) environment, do the following steps:

Turn on the computer and immediately press the esc key to display the Startup Menu.
Press the System Diagnostics (F2) key, and then select the Hard Drive Test option.
Allow the Hard Drive Test to complete.
Test may take thirty to sixty minutes or more to complete depending on the size of the drive and the extent of the problems.

Outcomes of the Hard Drive test
When the Hard Drive disk test is complete, a message is displayed to indicate what actions have been taken.
Please make a note of that and post here please

If it is good we will then do a clean boot to check out the drivers

15 mins so far on ‘initialising system diagnostics’ page, not yet got to Hard Drive test option :-\

Definitely something amiss here, I think a clean boot will be the next option. You can either hang on or stop and then move to clean boot …Your choice although I feel the hard drive may be the problem

still no change, whats the risk with clean boot (I know I don’t want to hear this really …)

None at all, basically we will stop all services and drivers bar the ones required to run windows. If that improves the performance we will then try to determine which driver/service is causing the problem

Next we will check for driver conflicts

Step 1: Start MSConfig

Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

Step 2: Configure Selective Startup options

1.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/Cleanboot1.JPG

2.Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
Note The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.

3.Click the Services tab.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/cleanboot2.JPG

4.Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
5.Click Disable All, and then click OK.
6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

Once back in windows does the problem still occur ?

Its certainly waking up faster! However, the screen has gone darker and there’s no internet connection. Drunk mouse is also sober, no delay.

OK run msconfig again and enable half of the services and reboot
Is it the same or slower

We need to run a process of elimination to determine the one causing the slowdown/hanging

ok so far, but still darker screen and no internet
can I just check, on the general tab I should have only the selective start up checked, no others - your instructions conflict with the screen shot

That is correct the screenshot is before I did changes

How many services are left to re-enable and what are they ?

sorry to be stupid but should the load system services be ticked
