My avast scanner doesnt work. when I start the scanning process it says it works but in the report I always read " the process cant …the file because the file works with another process". The last sanning process is dated on june2005, but I just scanned last week. also my computer works very slow when I start avast.

What is the exact error you are getting?
Anything in Avast’s log file that ain’t correct?

Firefox and avast! are working fine together for me.
The date last scanned relates to full local disk scans and not partial scans. If you have done a full scan since then, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

my english is very bad, so I didn´t understand what you mean with “add remove program”. On which button can I find “repair”?
Is it the a-button at the task-symbols? And what do you mean with “change/remove button”? How can i do this? could you describe it in simply words for me? Thank you very much!
What David ment is this:
start > control panel > programs > add/remove > Avast > change/repair
You will need to scroll down once the windows is displayed as Repair is at the bottom.
