I’ve been an enthusiastic Avast user for probably 15 years. For much of that time I was pretty active in the forum, too, and was even offered (twice!) a trip to Prague for forum helpers conventions. (Must have been doing something right, I guess.)
Older forum users may remember some of my participation.
The almost continuous ads, pop-ups etc have done me in.
At first it was on my mobile phone (Android) where they were invasive and frequent enough to affect what I was doing, but the main reason is that the performance of the phone started to suffer.
Now it’s on my desktop.
The warnings that I need a firewall are too frequent. The offers to upgrade almost constant. It’s been going on for quite a while, but I’ve had enough. CCleaner has started doing the same thing. It almost amounts to fear tactics.
I’ve switched to another AV.
I think Avast, while an extremely good AV, has lost it’s way, or rather, plays from the song-sheet of just another random corporate behemoth.
It’s a shame to see you go, but that is your choice.
One point I have noticed from another topic is that by all accounts there is no such intrusive ads/cross selling in the AVG free model and the UI is also meant to be better. You might want to give that a try and see if this is the case ?
This is strange to me given that it was Avast who bought out AVG and not the other way around.
When you consider it is now over 16 years since I jumped ship from AVG
Sorry to see you leave. Thanks for all you did for us while being part of this mission.
I also experience now from time to time that the forums are being overrun by nasty spam raids.
Do not react to such phone spam is my advice to forum users, that may come confronted with such spam run messages. They are spam and you may loose money when you enter the suggestions given there.
Hello @Tarq57. Thank you very much for taking the time to communicate your concern with Avast. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the Avast team.
First and foremost, thank you for being a long time and loyal Avast Evangelist. I assure you, your feedback does not fall on deaf ears, and it is very much appreciated.
I am not going to delve into the semantics associated to the referenced unwanted pop-up notifications. I get it that you are displeased with the experience you shared, which is regrettably not the experience we intended for you to have had, and I respect you have every right as a consumer to take your business elsewhere. Needless to say, we are going to miss you.
In writing to you, I just wanted you to know that we do care and take seriously your feedback. I am hopeful that you find your way back to Avast if/when the time is appropriate. Regards, Shawn
