C:\ProgramFiles\Alwil Software\Avast4\AshAvast is not a valid Win32 application

Please help.

I’m trying everything to try and resolve issues with my computer. I can’t get Avast to run anymore because the above error msg keeps coming up when I try and run the program. I’ve read some previou posts related to this and tried programs like regcure, avg anti-root kit but they all won’t run because ***.exe is not a valid win32 appkication. I can’t try and do what other have been advised to do in their posts because I can’t run these programs.

Whatevers on my system is also resets a setting in the registery editor which resets a value to do with my wireless connection.

I run WIN XP SP2 on an ASUS A3 notebook. Any, any help appreciated

You probably still have an infection, probably a rootkit on your system that is killing avast.

Run:
http://research.pandasoftware.com/blogs/research/archive/2006/12/14/Rootkit-cleaner.aspx
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try_blacklight.html

After running the above rootkit tools if nothing is found try these.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode. AVG anti-spyware or SUPERantispyware or Spyware Terminator.

Ok - I try and run Panda anti-root kit , but it comes up with the error Pavark.exe is not a valid win32 application.

The blacklight link as follows takes me to a dead website:

https://europe.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml

The anti-virus programs download but won’t run, all coming up with ***.exe is not a valid win32 application.

My computer won’t load up in safe mode. If I select safe mode, it refreshes and goes back to asking what mode do I want to start the system in…

What next?

Ok - I have Superantispy running now. But I can’t get the root kit software to run as explained above. Will advise of results of superanti spy and report back. Anything I can do about the root issues?

Update. I’ve tried running supperantispyware 3 times now and each time my computer crashes during the scan. It goes to a blue screen and then restarts the computer where I get a msg that windows has encountered a serious error…

Please, please is there anyone who can help!!!

You may have some missing files or driver issues as well. If you have the XP with SP2 CD, try booting with it, and going to the end and installing a fresh copy of Windows XP on itself, otherwise know as a “repair” It will find your current “Windows XP” operating installation and if you highlight it it will ask you if you want windows to try to repair this installation. Check yes, else it will install a whole new Windows XP into a separate directory. Make sure you have all your driver discs handy and if they are a part of your notebook, you will have to ‘point’ to the appropriate folders for files and drivers if it needs it.

This won’t get rid of all nasties, but it may replace any corrupted files you have on your system. You will still need to check the computer after you do a “repair”.

Thanks Vern for your suggestion. Unfortunately my Laptop came preloaded with Windows operating system, therefore I don’t have the ability to reload it…

C’mon guys, there must be someone out their that’s had experience with these issues before. Any futher suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
