Can Avast detect potential malware infection in .apk files?

I’m about to download game Royale Clan on Google Play but end up encountering the geo-restrictions problem. Then I try downloading an APK file instead. Before downloading this file, I just want to make sure whether the APKs is tampered with or not. Plus, do you know any methods to verify that this APK file is not modified? Thanks.

You can also upload and check file(s) here >> www.virustotal.com

Thanks a lot, :D. Btw, Can this VirusTotal tool verify the authenticity of an APK file from a third-party website (I mean when compared to the original one on Google Play) or it only checks virus and malware?

Using the additional tabs on vt “Details” can give lots of extra info about a file, who made it, Version, digitally signed, first upload to vt, last upload, hash MD5 SHA-1 SHA-256 …………

Eksample on a Microsoft OS file

Also note the scan date at top right, if old use the refresh button at top right for a fresh result

If you scroll all the way Down you find lots of “about VT” links
