CAN AVAST PROTECT A PC WITHOUT WINDOWS UPDATES ?

Hi, I’ve an ASUS zenbook with Windows 8.1 (and avast internet security installed) but from october I can’t perform the windows update because an error occur during the update process. Tryed to resolve with microsoft tool = nothing. :frowning: :frowning:
Is good enough have avast up to date without the windows updates or the w. updates are always mandatory ? ???
thank

p.s. I know that “the best” is to have the w. updates but, are really, really mandatory to avoid infections? ::slight_smile:

CAN AVAST PROTECT A PC WITHOUT WINDOWS UPDATES ?
Yes.....

however if security related windows issues are patched then you have double protection for those issues…

I can't perform the windows update because an error occur during the update process.
what error message do you get?

Could this be causing it? Re: http://infinitewp.com/knowledge-base/unknown-error-occurred-during-update-process/

polonus

Long shot. Sirefef (ZeroAcess/Za/0Access) blocking it?

Have all of your Apps been updated ???

It has a option to fix Windows Update problems.
Give it a try I would say.

I had a similar issue with my fathers 8.1 system where certain windows updates failed for a couple of months, I got fed up with it in the end and restored the system ( via an image ) to before the failed updates began then re-started the windows update process and they all completed successfully.

A bug must have been in one of the updates somewhere and the restored image from two months earlier fixed it.

 thank at all, I’ve tryed different solutions ( windows fix tool, Tweaking.com - Windows Repair, delete the july update about windows store) but nothing change. Then I think it’s better do nothing else to avoid biggest problems. I hope that Avast up to date will be enough to protect me.
Happy holidays

Microsoft also has the very powerful Fix It Tool 50202 that completely reinstalls Windows Update components. This one is especially helpful in cases where Windows Update is not able to check for updates (for example, error 800700C1) or installs the same updates all over again (several cases with infinite loops of .NET Framework updates).

A diagnostic log may reveal the problem…

W. update display error code 80073712,…but I will not clean & reinstall the o.s.

Have you run sfc and dism?
Have you tried a in-place-repair?

I will try this solution in next few hours (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxQ7zB8uQ3c) because the other doesn’t work (executed but without goal)
