Can I install Avast Premium on Lenovo Chromebook S330 Laptop ?

Guys,
I am considering getting a Lenovo Chromebook S330 Laptop, for strictly web browser usage. However, I see that it uses Google Chrome OS, and not Windows.

Will I be able to install my Avast Premium Security on this laptop, even though it does not use Windows as an OS ?

Many thanks for any info/help you can offer.

Why You Don’t Need an Antivirus on Your Chromebook https://www.dignited.com/95309/why-you-dont-need-an-antivirus-on-your-chromebook/

Thank you for that information !

But then, there is this :

Do Chromebooks need antivirus protection? Yes, Google Chromebooks need antivirus protection. While they come with some in-built antivirus features, the protection provided isn’t foolproof. You can download a malicious app from the Google Play Store or fall victim to an online scam or phishing site.

Now what should I do ? :-/

Even Apple operating systems need an antivirus, even if the infection rate is lower, there is always a chance that they can get infected. Then there is also the phishing theme and sites with malware…
So I would always put an AV protection.

for strictly web browser usage.
So since he is only going to use it for surfing i would not bother

Guys, thank you for your insight.

I sent the same question to Avast, and they wrote back telling me that Avast does not run on Chromebook.

Yet, when I look online, I see tons of articles stating that Avast is one of the best AVs for a Chromebook !

So now, I am really confused, and don’t know how to proceed. :-/

As far as I’m aware there is no official Avast Application for Chromebooks, as would appear by Avast’s answer.

So I ran to Google it As you no doubt did, after all it is their OS - https://www.google.com/search?q=Avast+for+chromebook. Some say what has been said here, some say differently, but some of these will be downright wrong, hacks, etc. etc. But even if you managed to get it installed somehow, if Avast are saying it isn’t supported.

This has been asked in the forums before and this came up in the search - here is my reply in that old topic - I don’t think that has changed.

Again, thank you for your information !

Would you know of or could recommend a laptop brand that does indeed use Avast ?

It isn’t so much the brand of laptop, but the Operating System that is supported. Windows and the Apple iOS being the two main supported OSes, I’m still on Windows 10 and will only move to Windows11 when I get a new system. I have never use the Apple iOS or product range, so I couldn’t say.

I’m still using a relatively old laptop (in laptop terms), the details are in the signature below my posts.

It is not the Brand but operating system. As far as i know all brands make computers with both Windows OS and Chrome OS and then you have Apple that make MacOS/ iOS

Windows OS has the largest marketshare and is also where most of the malware is, it is way above all other OS (just Google malware statistic and marketshare)
Nothing is 100% so Even if you have avast (or any other AV) installed you are not 100% secure
If you want a alternativ, Malwarebytes run on chromebook

Buy your chromebook and dont worry

One of my laptops, a Lenovo with Windows 10 have a broken hinge and i will replace this with a Chromebook
