Can I make avast announcements quieter?

I currently have earphones which don’t have their own controls. The volume on my computer is set to average. Often when listening to music I get announcements from avast to say there has been some sort of security download. My ears are virtually blown off by these announcements! They are fantastically loud. Is there anything I can do to turn them down?

Settings > Sounds.

Tech, even the non-voiceover ones are quite loud…

Canna W,
You can, but it means editing, and replacing the files. This is a little tricky because of the self protection, and because of the locations. Not impossible though.

Indeed, I’m not saying the opposite. They’re loud.

if you’re on Seven, you can do that, see screen shot

edit: you’ll only have access for a short while to the Avast setting during and a couple of minutes after an announcement happened.

Not on mine…

I edited my post, see above.

Ah ok, and it seems to remember that as well

yeah I was wondering if a setting change would be retained (I didn’t test)and you seem to confirm that it is.

Yeah, I lowered it, and then did some scans to get the sound to be played…just realised though that I kept the sound window open, so might not be. I’ll check it.

A new setting would be ideal, like the Popups in 5.1, but now’s probably not the best time to ask for that.
So thanks for the tip, Logos.

Edit: Oh. Hopefully it’ll save the setting.

np

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I really appreciate your help.

The only sound I hear regularly is the automatic update message - that is the one that drives me nuts.

Therefore, under “Enable avast sounds” I have unticked “Automatic update”. Under “Voiceovers” I have unticked “Use voiceover sounds (when available)”

I think this should stop the problem. I don’t mind being alerted when something out of the ordinary has happened - but getting loud voice messages for each and every update was unpleasant. Hopefully this will now stop.

Thank you again for your help!

Ok, lowered it, done a scan, then raised it to full. THe volume seems to be retained. But I suppose we will have to see over a longer period of time.

Mine just updated. I halved avast!'s volume in the Mixer and I’ll reboot now. When I’m back up I’ll run a Quick scan, check the Mixer again, and return to report.
If it’s persistent after a restart then we’re good.

EDIT: It worked. Twice. Once at 50% and once at 20%. Couple folder scans instead, not that it matters. avast! 5.1.889, OS Win7 x64.

Thanks for the tip Logos. I had downloaded a free wav editor and reduced all of the sounds. Glad to know there is another way of doing this. Would be nice if there was a normal, medium, and low wav file that we could select through the GUI.

Nice find Logos
