Can I run Avast free and Zone alarm free?

I’ve been seeing conflicting reports as to whether they can run together. I used to run them then had some problems with my computer and had to have it fixed. The guy that fixed it switched my AV to Microsoft Security and said he’s never had a problem with it, but for some reason it makes me nervous. He also switched my firewall to the Windows one and I’m not feeling too great about that either. I think it’s okay for a temporary fix, but would prefer a stronger firewall. Is it okay to run Avast with Zone Alarm? I use Firefox 6 if that makes a difference.

I know I’m going to definitely switch back to Avast free. Any help would be great, thanks

Also, I have re-installed MalwareBytes, should I re-install Spybot or is MalwareBytes enough?

Thanks again

  1. There are many related topics on the forum. Use the search function.
  2. We got several reports of problems with ZA, also it isn’t that good anymore, imo.

No, please don’t use SB, Mbam is enough.

Sorry for asking again, I had looked for another topic on that but couldn’t find any. :-[

Thanks for the help.

Lots of hits why Spybot is no good:

MBAM is way better just update its definitions before running a Quick Scan.

If you want a strong firewall, use Comodo, but whatever you chose make sure all old security products are fully uninstalled

I always do an update for MBAM

I’m not real firewall smart and I’ve heard that Comodo is complicated, any hints for it would be greatly appreciated. Will it work with Firefox?

Oh that I know! I just got rid of Microsoft Security and am back with Avast…I can breathe easier now ;D

Install the firewall only…!
The more complicated part is D+

  1. Thanks!

You’re welcome…!

phoenix1,

ZoneAlarm Free is the best free firewall. It works great with avast!.

ZA Free works great with MSE, too.

If MSE updated as well as avast!, it would be the best a/v, IMO.

Avast!'s superior updating keeps it above avast!.

The combination of avast! and ZoneAlarm Free can’t be beat!

That’s not true.

Asyn, thanks for confirming what I have been trying to tell rd. ;D

If it was so great you would stick with zonealarm instead of changing firewalls every other day ::slight_smile: i tried zonealarm once ( enough said ) :o

I don’t change fw’s, I sometimes like to tryout other software. I’ve had my fill of other fw’s.
