Can not enter license as a member of Administrators group

Hi,

I just reinstalled Avast Home on a computer member of a domain.
I log on with a domain account, member of the local administrators group (not a local account). And then Avast reports I am not member of the administrators group, therefore I can not enter the license key.

Then I logged off and logged on with a local account member of the administrators (not the Administrator account, a different one), and in that case only Avast is fine to let me enter the registration key.

Is that normal ?

Thanks

Which account did you install avast under, the first or second ?
It may be that you can only enter the key under the account you installed it.

With multiple accounts, especially multiple with admin privileges it is perhaps best to install under ‘the administrator’ account, similar problems have been seen for multiple admin user accounts.

Can you please post a screenshot of the message box you’re getting?
It sounds quite strange… domain accounts that are local admins should be just fine.

BTW what OS is this?

Thanks
Vlk

Here is the screen shot.
OS is Windows XP french + SP2 ; to answer to David : I installed Avast! with the domain account, and I try to enter the license with the same account.

There is not problem in case I try to enter the license with a local account.

Cedric

Hmm, strange indeed… I checked the code and it seems OK.

Is the domain account you’re using a member of many groups? Because that’s the only reason I can think of.

Thanks
Vlk

Yes, my domain account belongs to ca. 55 groups in the domain, plus 3 local groups.
Does that help ?

thanks

Makes sense then. There was some kind of fixed-size buffer for enumaration of the groups (looking for the local admin group). I assume the bug was caused by the fact that the info didn’t fit into the buffer.

It will be fixed in the next program update.

Thanks
