Can not find script file "E:\.vbs"

Today when I plugged in my usb portable memory stick avast picked up a trojan on it. I removed the trojan with no problems but now when I try to access my memory stick via the E drive I get a message that says cannot find script file E:.vbs and I cannot access my memory card. Did avast remove something it shouldn’t have from my computer? I checked the virus vault to see if I could find the trojan that was removed and it was not in there. Can anyone give me any advice on how to rectify this situation or even about what happened? I would really appreciate any help.

Well I would be highly suspicious about a file called just by a file type, e.g. .vbs (visual basic script) as the E: is the drive letter and the \ indicates the root folder, so a file without a name is suspect IMHO.

You don’t say what type of USB stick it is, common or garden USB 1.1 or 2.0 or if it t=is a U£ device ?

Now it may be that there is also an autorun.inf file on that infected stick and that may have the run command to try and run the .vbs file and it reports it missing.

The infected/suspect file would only be in the chest if you specifically sent it there, but your comment I removed the trojan with no problem, leads me to believe you may have deleted it, so what action did you choose on detection ?

What is the Malware name, the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe
