Greetings to all.
Just installed on XP netbook, removed AVG, installed Avast Free.
Now, not fully protected.
Can not ‘fix’, or turn on ‘Real time shield’.
Tried to uninstall/repair from ‘remove programs’
No success
Uninstalled completely and DL new setup, reinstalled
No change
Please advise
Thanks…
How did you remove AVG?
Any other security programs still on PC?
All AV’s can leave leftovers that can make the next AV act weird or not work at all.
You could try running AVG’s removal tool, choose matching tool for what bit system you have(64or32). >>http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
Run the tool according to instructions.
Then perform a repair of Avast! This is done by beginning to uninstall Avast! normally through add/remove programs, but choosing the “repair” option when it is presented.
Thanks, I’ll giver a go and report back.
Though I did use the AVG remover with the tool suggested
No luck with that procedure.
Yuck
You never answered if you have any other security programs on this OS?
Well, not to go over ground you already covered, but you could do a clean re-install.
- Get the Avast! uninstall tool>>
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html - Go get Avast! setup again, Free DL is hosted on Cnet.
- Uninstall avast normally. reboot.
- Use the removal tool. reboot.
- Run Avast! setup. reboot (yes, again)
Sorry, I have Malwarebytes, Free version, it does not have AV
Downloaded the remove utility to desktop, but it does not show in Safe mode desktop
It will not run from normal XP startup
Thank you, Gargamel360,
Finally got it fixed as per your excellent post.
Thank you for your assistance
No problem, glad to help.
