When trying to install the setup.exe file, my computer says it’s not a valid win32 application and aborts the setup. I already have Avast installed and was renewing the paid for version.
Well, then there’s no need to reinstall avast!..
I was following directions from Avast through the renew process. It called for all the information, my credit card etc., then sent me the files in my email. When I tried to initiate the files, I got the ‘not a valid win32 application’ and it aborted. I tried this 4 times.
- Which avast!..?? (Pro/IS)

Good. You have the latest version.
So, as said, no need to install the program again.
If you want to know how to insert a new license in AIS: https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1095
Thanks. :-\ I feel stupid now because I didn’t see the license file in my email. Otherwise I love Avast and have not had any problems with it at all. It’s better than Bitdefender, Norton, Zonealarm or Kaspersky. Had all of them.
Have a great day.
- You’re welcome.
- Thanks for the positive feedback.
Have a great day as well.
I haven’t been here in a long time, but needed to find some information on the updates, and lost myself inside many interesting threads…
By reading this thread, I see you have solved your problem with Avast, and I’m glad to see that…
This is a little off topic, but I just wanted to comment on your other problem about your computer telling you about a win32 application not being valid…
For some reason I started having the same problem sometime ago, with many files and pictures, and it was driving me nuts!.. Right clicking on the file and then on properties, would show it was locked to protect my computer at the bottom!..
I never, ever, download anything from places I don’t trust, I don’t use P2P, Chat or IM… I can’t even watch videos on my computer… and always scan everything before using it!.
I have no idea when this started as I never had any problems with invalid files before… It must have been after some MS update, and I never knew they did that… Many people I know have never had one file with that warning, and we all have Windows XP- SP3 fully updated…
After many “invalid file” notifications, I decided to make a special folder on my desktop and downloaded things go straight there… I have to unlock every single item, every time… I scan it before using it, and transfer it to the location where it belongs after that…
Thank goodness Avast Internet Security is so fast!!..
It is a royal pain, but I have tried a few fixes that didn’t work, and don’t know of any other work around, but at least I can work in peace now…
I hope this will help others that experience the “win32 invalid application” error and make their lives a little bit easier…
This most certainly is not normal computer operation. You can certainly start your own topic either in this section or the virus section.
If you choose to do so, follow the steps outlined here and attach all logs in your thread, not in the LOGS section. An possible option is a XP repair, but I would wait to see what others say in the new post first.
