cannot install client on XP workstation

We have installed Server Edition on W2K Server and installed the client on W2K workstations. I have one XP workstation and it is the only one that we cannot install either through the ADNM or directly at the workstation. here is the log report we received when we tried installing the client directly at the workstation (note that some info was changed for security purposes)

At the server level, the error is Access denied. Can you help me!

If you search the board for 0x00000002 I’m almost sure you’ll get some info.
Sorry, I’m not used to the ADNM enough to help. :-[

Did you install using Managed Client setup downloaded here at the bottom of page?
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-adnm.html

If the “Cmdline” in log is really empty, you probably used setup.exe in InstPkgs folder.
Check if you can access admin share on that workstation using \usermachine\c$

I’m logged in as Admin on the workstation. I tried using the deployment task from the management console, but this did not work, so I copied the InstPkg to a network share and tried installing from there, this did not work. Would it be better to copy the InstPkg to the users machine and then try installing it? But what I really don’t understand is why it wont work from the management console. I disable the firewall that loads on XP, that doesn’t help.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by : Check if you can access admin share on that workstation using \usermachine\c$

You can’t run setup.exe from InstPkgs folder directly, these files are stored only for remote installation or for creating msi package.
In deployment task’s properties you can select option to create msi, then run it on client computer.

To check admin access, run this command on server:
net use * \usermachine\c$
If the c$ share isn’t mapped, check in client’s control panel - folder options, if you don’t use simple file sharing.

Also send me Remote installation log from ADNM console (under View menu).

Thanks. I created and used an MSI package. That worked!

I have another question, we can access the virus chest of workstations through the ADMN. If I delete the files contained within, do they actually delete at the workstation or is this just informational data and I must delete them at the workstation proper?

The remote access to the chest is really what it says - access to the chest located on the remote machine. So, yes, the data will get deleted on the target machine.

BTW the upcoming ADNM update will contain better chest management options (so far, you can only manipulate one chest at a time - inconvient if you need to do something on all machines, for example)

thanks.
