Firstly, Avast failed to prevent my computer becoming unusable due to a virus. Bear in mind I never connect to pornography, games, music or other sites which may be unsafe.
I had to have the laptop entirely reformatted, with all the hassle that entails.
I contacted Avast for information on how to re-download my paid for programme (paid in September). That was at the very beginning of November. Today is 12 December. In the meantime, with some difficulty I finally received the information relating to my purchase plus a link to re-install. However, no license was included. It seemed to be only the free version. Many mails and much time wasted whilst I’m told by various different customer support women to phone the US for help, I still do not have access to the license which was sent more recently. The license will not open in the email. I cannot phone free US or other numbers as I am in Turkey, which I’ve told them several times.
So far I’m very unimpressed indeed with Avast.
The computer shop installed a free version of McAffee which seems to be working better than the paid for version of Avast ever did! I think it was a waste of money.
I still have no idea how to open the license file for Avast and have received yet another message, from yet another support lady, to contact this forum. So I am here doing that.
Anybody got any useful ideas? Thanks for reading.
Bear in mind I never connect to pornography, games, music or other sites which may be unsafe. You dont have to ... there are no 100% safe sites on the net, safe today can be hacked tomorrow

Bear in mind I never connect to pornography, games, music or other sites which may be unsafe. There are lots of other ways a system can get infected.
I had to have the laptop entirely reformattedVery likely there was no need for it. Removing the infection would likely have been possible.
