Cannot process?

Hi! I ran a search for this and didn’t find any answers to the specific problem, but I also didn’t go through every topic, so I’m sorry if this has been asked before. (and yes, I know you hear that all of the time ;D)

I have been using avast4.6 home edition for some time now, and I always have the little on-access scanner thing running. Suddenly an avast warning popped up saying it found a trojan horse -
file name: C:\command.exe
malware name: Win32:Delf-W[Trj]

It recommended moving it to the chest - so I did! I get this error:
Avast! The system cannot find the file specified
Cannot process “C:\command.exe” file

I click OK only to have the warning pop up again… and again… repeatedly… I also get the same error when I try to delete it.

Any help would be most welcome, as I am definitely not a pro when it comes to dealing with viruses. ::slight_smile:

What is your Operating System? Is it up to date?

Command.exe shouldn’t be in the C:\ root/folder is it likely to be in use so avast can’t delete it as windows will be protecting it and that may be why you are getting multiple warnings (it isn’t a system file that would usually be in the windows folder and be called command.com).

If you have winXP you can schedule a boot-time scan from within the Start avast! Antivirus (right click the avast icon on the system tray, next to the clock).

My operating system is winXP and it is up to date. I did find it strange that command.exe was in C:\ and I’m still not even sure where it came from - that’s what was so strange.

However, I ran a boot-time scan and it appears to have fixed the problem… Thanks for the tip!

Happy to have helped, welcome to the forums.

What do you mean? The problem will only be solved if you clean the system, taking an action.
Did you delete the file?
In fact, XP does not hape command.com in the root directory ::slight_smile:
