Cannot unistall 4.8

My AVG was working fine and it stated that I needed to restart my comp for updates. I restarted comp and it had some fatal error that ended up making itself start at a restore point from some time ago. My AVG is now not working. I tried to DL a new version and it tells me that I need to unistall my current version. When i go to control panel it gives me an error message that a “SETIFACE ERROR” has occured 536870929. I even tried going to C/ drive and removing folder and that doesnt work. I then went to safe mode and tried unistalling form there and received the same error msg.
I am running windows 7 64 bit

PLEASE HELP

Hey and welcome to the forum!

I think you will need to uninstall it through the admin account. look here how to unlock the admin account in win7 http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/

don’t forget write admin in you language.

Your title states cant uninstall 4.8 then you post that you cant unistall avg, what’s with that? download and run the avg uninstall tool from here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

follow craigb’s advice

(my tip is alternative solution).

You can also download and run the windows 7 registry script from here http://www.askvg.com/collection-of-registry-tweaks-for-windows-7/ then you’ll be able to right click any file and take ownership, then you can delet it.

thanks for the tips. So far though, I cannot unistall even using the unistaller. It tells me to disable the self defense mode and the box is checked stating to turn it off. I have saved the unistalled to my desktop and will now try to use that in safe mode… this is driving me crazy

I hope it works in safe mode; it’s not always possible to uninstall a software in safe mode.

well… funny in safemode administrator, it would not work so i logged back in safemode under my user and it worked!! ( i think) hahaha… Now time to get a new version… any suggestions on best place for new version?
