Cannot update Avast or AV database

Hello,

Because of recent changes to the Avast update I no longer have an option to update Avast.

Not so long ago Avast introduced update through Icarus services, and since then updating Avast is a nightmare for those who configure and kind of firewall, because it create more process with randomized path.

Recent changes made it so much worse, because before I had some time to find the process and unlock it in a seconds after update was started, now its no longer possible. It is because process is faster at noticing that it has no internet access and it stops and deletes itself almost immediately.

So my question is this: How to update Avast when you have strict firewall rules policy?

If anyone from Avast team reads this, please stop using randomized processes for updates!

I’m also having the same problem with AVG Antivirus which also uses Icarus as the same update engine. I agree with you it also places Icarus.exe into random temp folders with some string of numbers. It’s been happening on two of my computers since July. Even if you do a clean uninstall and a fresh reinstall using an off-line installer of Avast or AVG, and a month later when a new update is available it will throw you the same error “Something went wrong”.

Doing a temporary change to your DNS settings, checking for malware and disabling your firewall will not make any difference as it will still throw the same error.

So, there isnt a way to update Avast now? Do really people need to give up their security to update it?
