Can't access Hotmail

Since the auto update of 2014.9.0.2011 I get the error message when trying to get to Hotmail.

<body onload="javascript:rd(); "

Turning off Webshield for 10 minutes allows access, but if I leave the site and go back later it’s the same error message.

IE8, XP SP3, Avast Free, Online Armor Premium, SpyBot S&D

I haven’t tested all my sites extensively, but most seem OK

This has been reported before…

You might try the fix suggested by Para-Noid in that thread.

Thanks for the reply.
What is AOS mentioned in that link?

AOS = Avast Online Security ( Plug-in) :slight_smile:

And where do I find that in the Free version please. I can’t see it anywhere.

ps. My sig says it all about my tech knowledge.

It would be found in your browser under Tools > Add-ons for Firefox, or Tools > Manage Add-ons in Internet Explorer…

Again, my thanks for the response.
Next question from my ignorance:- what does AOS do, and does disabling it leave some vulnarability/weaken Avast Free?

You’ll find this is Extensions. You can disable it if you choose to do so.

Thanks midnight, but that didn’t answer my questions

And yesterday’s solution of turning off web shield didn’t work today. Got the same error message.

This thread on Malwaretips may help…

Personally, I don’t use it. There are equivalent add-ons that do the same thing. I use the Web of Trust (WOT) add-on for reputation checking.

I feel comfortable simply using Avast free AV with the three shields enabled (no additional “tools” installed), and my COMODO firewall.

Many thanks Woodsy, that shone the light for me.
AOS disabled as I have WOT running as well.

And wondering if there is a work around for Hotmail (developers: hint hint)

Do you use Windows Live Mail?

-midnight. Hovering on the favourites link says it’s “mail.live.com”.

Disabling AOS seems to have solved the problem.

I was watching this thread on the MS Forums … It seems to come down to the Avast! Toolbar and its services.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/internet-explorer-wont-access-hotmail/df182561-4776-48f3-97ef-f8717b4920a2

Right clicking on the Avast! Toolbar Icon in Windows 8 (64bit) / Internet Explorer 10 to Disable the Avast! Toolbar worked and I can use my Hotmail. (Merci, John). Doing so indicated that the services listed would be disabled. The list was composed of multiple ( three ) instances of “avast! Online Security” . I am wondering if the service is reloading multiple time and getting confused or consuming multiple resources? Nonetheless, it appears to be a avast! issue so I will switching over to their support site. Thanks All !

NOTE: Using the Avast! SafeZone option is also a workaround for now.

I’ve just got back from holidays and I’m having the same problem. De-activated Avast for 10 Minutes and could access my live.com account. PLEASE Avast… fix this problem!!! Love the Company in the past, so PLEASE do something to protect your good reputation.
