I installed avast pro this morning and now I can’t go on the internet, it brings the page up but i cant click on the links to navigate. Also on my email i cant print. What did I do wrong??
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
Where would I do that at? Can you explain where it is?
It doesnt have that name you said on there. So what do I do?
What are the filenames(s) in the firewall? What is your firewall?
Where do I look at for that?
Windows security center should report the name of the firewall. Or hover the mouse over the icons near the clock and see what they say.
What is your Operating System (OS) ?
If you don’t know what your firewall is it is likely that you haven’t installed one, so you could be using the one with the OS or perhaps was on your system if a new one. But you are looking for the Windows Security Center or Vista Security Center, etc. that should tell you what firewall you have. You may have a firewall icon on your notification tray next to the clock.
What is it that you are looking at ?
The file name I gave is the avast Web Shield provider.
The only thing I see is “pc anywhere”. Is that the firewall?
No PC Anywhere is a remote connection software.
Let’s try it this way. Click start, control panel, you should see the security center icon. Open the security center and tell us what it says there.
This is assumming you have xp.
Ok I’m the security center, where do i go now? Everytime I try to login to my work website when it goes to re-direct it stops to a blank page. It even does it when I try to login on to hotmail.
Security center should show you what firewall, if any, is running, your anti virus and windows updates setting. What does it show you?
Its windows firewall, thats all that is showing.
Your problem may be 1074. I’m using Home under XP-SP2 and the Web shield is blocking my access to the Internet. I’ll be trying 1085.
I just need to know how to fix this ASAP. I have work to do!! Its driving me crazy I’ve been working on it for 2 days now.
Ok, then it’s not a firewall issue.
Next question, what did you have for an anti virus before and how did you uninstall it?
