Since the last programme update the only way I can access the web is to disable web shield. I’ve tried uninstalling avast and reinstalling but no luck. I’d be grateful if someone from avast could help me resolve this problem.

Try a repair…Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall>double click “avast”>scroll to repair>reboot.
How did you uninstall avast? Did you use http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility? It’s best if you uninstall in “safe mode” pressing F8 repeatedly.
It’s a good idea to clean-up with a good cleaner like CCleaner http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ 
Yes I usa oa, but this problem only occurred after the most recent avast! programe update.
delete all avast rules in OA and reboot…create new rules
I uninstalled in safe mode using the avast uninstall utility. Still hasn’t solved my problem I have to keep webgaurd disabled if I want to use the net lol.
This is on windows 7 x4 using avast free and online Armour free.
That’s the point after program updates components change and OA is blocking it, in your OA settings you should have it ask for changed applications and not block by default.
Delete any entry for avastSvc.exe in OA and reconnect to the internet that should force OA to ask again.
