OK the BIOS update may be the problem… Is the hard drive set to SATA in the BIOS ?

Are you able to run chkdsk c: /r

The drive is registered as SATA in the BIOS but in the boot menu it says UDHI (I can’t see it right now to verify that’s exactly what it says because I am running a chkdsk through the boot cd OS). The CHKDSK is on stage 4 and hasn’t had any issues yet.

Ok the bios is saying it is UEFI not SATA. I can’t figure a way to change that?
CHKDSK never got past the 4th part, it would hang constantly. Now, I can’t see it in the OS at all (had to unmount it) even after restart.

hey agian. don’t worry essexboy will continue help you with this when he’s back later today so be patience

Within the bios do you have an option for legacy boot as UEFI is the windows 8 boot system. It can be used on 7 but windows needs to be installed that way http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/09/22/protecting-the-pre-os-environment-with-uefi.aspx

This is the mobo I have http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4140#ov

It is still saying that the drive is UEFI
Here are my choices and results:

  • OS Type - Other OS and windows 8 - I used Other OS for all options
Boot Mode selection - When I put Legacy Only i get a bootmgr is missing error
When I put UEFI only - I can boot to starting windows then blue screen.
When I put UEFI and Legacy - same as above

What do I do?

I found it! All I had to do was switch from IDE to AHCI!!! PTL!!!

Glad it is fixed
