I have been using the avast free program for some time and really like it. I just downloaded it onto my husband’s laptop. It downloaded properly from what I can tell but the orange ball logo doesn’t show up in the bottom tray, the Start menu or in “programs.” Can anyone tell me where it went? And how do I get it start working? Thanks.
Do you try reboot? Try this first. Then try repair.

I have tried rebooting - no luck. I had no problems when I downloaded it for myself and normally I am fairly competent when dealing with computers. I will try again. And not to sound stupid, but where is “repair?” Or how do I access it?
Add and Remove Programs
Search for avast
Check Delete
Find Repair
Then Repair
Just rebooted - nothing! I went to Change and Remove Programs and Avast isn’t even listed. That is what is so strange - it is like it was never downloaded even though I know I did it. Actually I tried it three times! Grrrr!

Did you actually Install Avast 5 after you had downloaded it? :-\
If you are using - Vista
Have you checked to see if the Avast 5 Installation File is sitting in your - Downloads Folder … Waiting to be installed!
