Can't get rid of a trojan virus

I’ve tried just about everything I know of it to get
rid of it, but it comesback everytime I restart the
computer.

Win32:Trojan-gen. {VC}

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\25FOPKN6\dun[1].exe

And:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dun.exe

Win32:Trojan-gen. {VC}

I’ve tried doing schedule boot and I’ve tried he
restore system thing and it STILL comesback. My
computer is also having trouble starting up and
I am wondering if this virus could be the cause
of it.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

please work through the link “VirusRemoval” below in my sig, and then

  • empty Temp.Internet-files including OFFLINE files for ALL users
  • post a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis
  • install, update, scan and fix with SPYBOT & AD-AWARE in SafeMode (F8-Boot) several times

P.S.:
Remember → GOOGLE is your friend:
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=dun.exe+trojan&btnG=Suche&meta=

dun.exe is probably
AdWare.DealHelper.x

AdWare.DealHelper.x"

Yup. It keeps popping up on Spyware doctor also.

If you haven’t already got this software, download, install, update and run it.

  1. Ad-Aware
  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
  3. Spywareblaster
  4. Download HijackThis.zip

You could also try to schedule a boot-time scan in avast’s menu (or try the ‘Schedule Boot-Time Scan’ using RajZors AEC avast! External Control Tool

I’m not affiliated in any way, but I like this product: it has removed a lot of Trojans other programs (ahem) have missed. There’s a free working trial download (don’t forget to download the latest definitions.)

It’s worth running if you’re cleaning a computer, as a double check or to remove stubborn Trojans.

I’ve used it a few times, so I reckon the least I can do is give it a few free plugs.

I had that virus and it did not get far enough in my system so I could just delete it but if I were you I would put it in the virus chest then try to delete it that is what i did with some viruses i could not delete and it worked out fine.

  • post a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis

It will not post it saying there are too many characters

  1. Go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/virus-4d.asp
  2. Download win_betaengdat.zip
  3. Extract to C:\Scan\
  4. Open the Command Prompt
  5. Navigate back to Scan folder with CD\Scan, Enter
  6. Type scan.exe C: /ALL /ANALYZE /CLEAN /PROGRAM /UNZIP /WINMEM
  7. Press Enter

Chow!

For an on-line scan of your Hijackthis log file try here http://hijackthis.de/index.php
Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

I think one of the suggested programs got rid
of it. Before I would get alerted by avast on
startup about the virus and now it doesn’t do
it. I also done a scan with avast and now there
are none now. I believe the problem is now
gone.

Thanks for the help.
