I have a legacy system and do NOT want later versions of Avast. 7.1474 was working perfectly until it claimed to run out of space for virus definition updates (despite the fact that there was plenty of room on the drive). I’ve got the 7.1474 executable which is the ONLY version which works properly on my setup. But, every time I try to install it, the blasted program updates to 2015 which I do NOT want. I’ve tried denying it access (when it asks) to the internet, but that doesn’t work either.
Is there a way to install version 7.1474 without it automatically updating? If not, I guess I’ll have to go without antivirus protection on a system on which, heretofore, only Avast and my calendar program had internet access unblocked by my firewall. I never use email or any other internet usage on this virtual machine.

TNT
Given that the virtual machine is inside an apple, I’d have to take everything down. I can’t run Windows unless the Apple is on. I’d have to disconnect the iMac from my home network to do so (which probably will take all three computers down), but, you’re right, it just might work.
This program takes two forevers to truly uninstall because you certainly cannot count on its own uninstaller to truly get rid of it. Revouninstaller has been working on it for several hours (I’ve learned the hard way that you have to get every single thing out of the Registry when uninstalling anything to be truly successful).

As has been explained several times already, this has nothing to do with diskspace but with how that avast version was build. It simply can't handle the large database files.

True. aswclear doesn't remove everything only some major parts/registry entries.
Revo uninstaller has been working on it for several hours
Strange. Revo shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Even on slow systems.
On a side note:
It is unfortunately true that uninstalling through control panel in almost all cases leave things behind.
The same is true for the uninstallers provided by the developers.
It’s hopeless. I thought I’d downloaded 7.1474, but every place I go downloads the latest version which I definitely do NOT need or want. I did download avast clear.exe which got rid of Avast. I pulled the network plug and installed a final time, but it’s no good, despite the download page reading version 7.1474, it downloaded the latest version. I cannot find the old version. So . . . I guess I’ll get by without an antivirus program and run only Malwarebytes. It’s a shame because I found 7.1474 worked perfectly on my legacy XP Pro system. But, I’m done; I’ve wasted hours and hours on this. Incidentally, I found Avast’s version on my two Macs unusable . . . really fouled things up so I switched to a different antivirus for the Mac side where I do use the internet and email.
