I was using AVG 7.5 and as of a few weeks ago it no longer supports Windows 98, so there are no further updates. I can’t go to a later version of AVG, because they too do not support Windows 98.
I am trying to install Avast 4.8 Home, which I understand supports Windows 98 and I am having problems. I will be purchasing a new computer at the end of the year, but figure if I don’t have up to date virus protection, I could have a problem from now until then. I use Spybot Search & Destroy and ZoneAlarm. At the current time I have dial-up.
I went to cnet to download Avast Home Edition 4.8.1335.90414.
http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html
Everything seems to start out fine and I see “Downloading File: Setupeng.exe” After some percentage of downloading it stop and I see “There was an error while completing the setup process” and “View setup log”
Here is the setup log:

At first I thought because it takes some time to download with dial-up that I was loosing the dial-up connection during the process. So I asked a friend to burn it to a disc. No difference.
I am now thinking that the site may be the problem, because no where did it require me to register. I see on the Avast site it says:
"Free registration
avast! antivirus Home Edition is FREE to use but it is necessary to register before the end of the initial 60 day trial period. Following the registration you will receive by e-mail a license key valid for a period of 1 year. After you have downloaded and installed the program, the license key must be inserted into it within 60 days. The registration process is very easy, and it will take you only a couple of minutes".
Your assistance would greatly be appreciated in getting this problem resolved so I may download Avast and have an up to date antivirus program on my OLD computer for the remainder of 2009.
