Can’t understand why avast does not want install on just installed Windows Ultimate edition? Here is a log:

Checked FAQ and found that OS Windows 7 Ultimate is supported https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=515&nav=0,1,22 . Computer also fits under minimal requirements. Same behavior with international version.
I suspect that avast falsely detected this OS as SERVER.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
lol, wow, that’s weird.
How was the OS installed in the first place? Was it a factory image (came with the computer) an upgrade from something else, or a clean install?
Your OP just stated that it was “just installed”

This is your problem:
Windows 7 ver 6.1, build 7600, sp 0.0 SERVER
Avast free/pro can’t be installed on server OS versions of windows.
So, you think he’s trying to install it on Server 2008, and the avast installer sees it as Windows 7 server?
Never tried, but I guess it’s possible.

I don’t think, that is dangerous, but avast is reporting it as a Server version of the OS.
I don’t use windows 7 so I don’t know what the server build versions of it are .
Edit: a little google shows this is a server OS, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows .

you will need to install the server edition.
No, that makes no sense. Avast is reporting NT 6.1 build 7600, which is exactly what the wikipedia screenshot says Win 7 is supposed to be. And for that matter, there is no “ultimate” edition of 2008 server, so either the OP is blatantly lying, or…
Something’s screwy.

Clean install on a clean HDD. Installed from MSDN DVD.

Clean install from MSDN DVD. No any preinstalled software. The installation run with admin privileges (elevated privileges) under admin account.

That’s not mine problem! That’s avast’s problem, that it falsely assume Windows 7 as a server!
Windows 7 is a workstation OS. This windows might be corporate client, but this is not a SERVER anyway.
All I can suggest is to delete the setup file you have now, and try downloading it again.
It shouldn’t be reporting it as a server OS.

Have tried this already. Here are file sizes and checksums:
1a05397e76846aec154ba45936fa4455 *setup_av_free.exe 55085336
6883c5e8bc8af742387880ff0b3016b0 *setup_av_free_rus.exe 43689992
BTW digital signature is ok on both files…
That’s what I exactly expected!
I’m at a loss dude, and I have to head home for the day. ???
Hopefully someone else can step in here and help out. Good luck, and I’ll help tomorrow if you still need it by then.

I am lost too, and going to go sleep
Thank you for your help, I very appreciate it. I am using avast for more than 4 years and find it very useful. I don’t want to switch to another AV software. I am not in a hurry, but still need AV running in a week or so.

I find it strange since I use Win7 pro.
I will install my Win 7pro on a virtual machine and test Avast.
