Can't install or uninstall, just stuck

Avast (free) prompted me to update to the latest version a couple of days ago but the update seems to have hung up somewhere in the process.

I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, remove but no success with any process. If I try to manually remove files I get a ‘require permission’ message even though I am logged in as Admin.

Currently I have this window with the blue bar just going back and forth, it has been there for at least 30 minutes without progress until I stopped it with Task Manager.

Running current Windows 10.

Task Manager shows

I stopped the processes in the Apps section, but cannot ‘End Task’ any of the Background processes.

Obviously I am stuck in limbo and am currently unprotected so would like to solve this situation asap, any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Use the Uninstall Utility

Thanks, tried that but unfortunately it does the same thing, just sits there as an open window with the blue bar going back and forth :frowning:

Were you asked to run in “Safe Mode”?
If so did you

Nothing comes up about safe mode.
I am right-clicking the avastclear.exe file and selecting run as admin, it then opens the initial screen and just sits there with the blue bar going back and forth

Well if it were me I’d reboot and then try running the utility.
If it doesn’t work then I’m not sure what’s going on.

Thanks for the previous tip, I manually restarted the pc in safe mode and was then able to uninstall correctly.
Now running the installation process again and looking like all is proceeding normally

You’re welcome.
