can't locate software after reset?

Hello Forum…

My daughter bought me an HTC desire C recently. Now not being used to smart phones I was worried about malware etc. I downloaded the Avast! Mobile Security.
Problem is not long after I installed it I was having trouble with my video playback (nothing to do with Avast).
Support for the phone said to do a reset, which I did. Now that everything’s back up and running I can’t find a shortcut or anything to pointing to my antivirus.
When I try to download it again and install it says (already installed) but I can’t find it?

Can you guy’s help me here this technology is new to me ?

Cheers

Paul…

Did you also install Anti-Theft or only mobile security?

Yes, Avast! Mobile Security. From Google play.com The software also allows me to lock and unlock the phone. I registered it and received email confirmation…

Is this any help?

Thanks Paul…

Question is if you installed avast! Anti-Theft as well or only the avast! Mobile Security.

Many thanks first of all for your kind assistance…

My email says AVG Mobilation Antivirus - ‘Anti-Theft’ registration succeeded. It then goes on to say… To start working with the ‘Anti-Theft Service’ please follow these steps:

So it must be that one?

Cheers

Paul…

Hi Paul,

I’m a little bit confused now, because if you have this email from AVG, than you don’t have an antivirus from us. AVG is a different company.

Ondra

Sorry it is Avast. I was talking to a chap earlier on and he was nattering on about (AVG) it must have stuck in my head…lol It’s definitely AVAST I have… Thanks…

Ok, so if I understand it correctly, you did a factory reset of your phone, right? That takes your phone to the state as it were when you bought it, so no previously installed applications are there. When you go to the web version of Google Play, it will say that avast! is already installed, but that means that you’ve installed it somewhere, sometime… If this is the case, just click on the INSTALLED button and start the installation again.

The other case might be that you are accessing the Google Play from your phone, which shouldn’t say installed unless it is really on the phone.

You also have to understand that avast! Mobile Security and Anti-Theft are separate applications (although they are connected together) and Anti-Theft can only be installed from the Mobile Security part. Now I’m not sure if I haven’t lost you already

Anyway, just try the first solution I suggested and you should be able to see at least the Mobile Security icon in your app drawer. After that, we can proceed to the Anti-Theft part

Hello Ondra…

Many thanks for your patience and kind assistance, it’s very much appreciated.

I have followed your instructions and have the Mobile Security now installed and showing. It has the (Anti-Theft) option there but I have not touch it just in case I do something wrong.

I do remember when I first installed the software it said the (Anti-Theft) was linked to this device?

I await your instructions…

Thanks

Paul…

Hi Paul,

I’m glad that it worked. Now when the Mobile Security is installed, feel free to touch the Anti-Theft option on the main screen. It should guide you through the installation process of Anti-Theft if it’s not already installed. It’s possible that you’ve installed it already when going through the installation wizard of Mobile Security.

Also don’t forget to setup the Anti-Theft (in Basic settings) so it can function properly and then enable it.

That should be all, let me know if it works

Hi Ondra.

I tried to go through with the setup and gave permission etc. But when I got to the part where it was to install it came back with denied ?
It said it’s a good idea to try again so I did without success…
It then gave an option to install from some zip file? not so sure if it gets heavy technically from here on in, I’m. New to. this?

:-\

Please advise.

Cheers

Paul.

Hi Paul,

It seems to me that you’ve checked the “Root installation” option. Don’t do that if your phone is not rooted (most likely isn’t).

Ondra

Hello Ondra…

Thanks once again for your assistance. Yes, I must have ticked the option you mentioned. I went through with the installation as your instruction… However I stopped after reading the (I agree) part. when reading that I would in effect be allowing Avast full control over every aspect of my phone with permission to pry into messages, send email, private information and basically do whatever they pleased with my device… This was a little alarming to say the least. I would never agree to allow such on my PC so why does Avast feel the need to do this?

Hope I’m not being paranoid here but this sounds like very insidious behaviour to me. :o

Many thanks

Hi…

Cheers reinhardholzer, that’s put my mind at rest. Pity there was not a link on the (I agree) where one could jump to this explanation.

Thanks again guys for your assistance.

Paul…

Hi Paul,

I’m glad to hear that everything is solved now.

Cheers,

Ondra

Unless your phone is rooted and you installed both avast! Mobile Security and avast! Anti-Theft with rooted privileges allowing both to save themselves to the phone ROM, they will be wiped out whenever you factory reset the phone.
