Can't manually update Virus Definitions anymore?

Apart from thinking this new UI stinks, I have managed to find my way to the Settings and some other functions About, these are well hidden.

There is an Explore Icon, but there is near to damn all to discover in this Explore.

Only when you click the Account icon do you start seeing other (now hidden) information. My statistics, Settings, Help and Support, What’s New and About.
The Settings section has:
Remove ads (pay up).
Notifications (some may find this handy)
Protection > Automatic Scan (effectively locked); App Shield (I guess this is/was the old Web Shield) On or Off; File Shield ditto app shield on or off.
Virus Database - effectively Automatic on or off - also shows last update and database Version number. But no manual.

For the masochists amongst us, get creative - you could switch this off and when you want to update enable it again and it should see you need to update or automatically do on when you enable it (I don’t know).
Privacy Policy Share Threat Data - Share app-usage - Collect app-usage data
Themes Lite, Dark, Automatic.

Here endeth the lesson.

If you have a Samsung phone you can now use Explore to find out if WEBSHIELD has turned itself OFF >:(

Well I don’t see anything there that says the Web Shield is OFF, it Just says Your browsing is secured.
Though by implication:
The stats may 0 threats blocked and 0 websites today.

Now I haven’t browsed and websites on my phone today so 0 would be correct but it doesn’t imply the Web Shield is off.

Clicking the three dots at the top right of the screen Has in my case Turn off Web Shield, by implication that would say it is On.

However, if it is Off (presumably it can be turned on), we still haven’t pinned down what is the cause in all of these years.

When webshield is ON, indeed says “Your browsing is secured” and green shield is displayed.
That changes when webshield goes OFF, with a button to go through the accessibility service toggle OFF/ON routine we are now familiar with.
Now a different UI menu sequence via Explore, instead of previous hamburger menu, to quickly check status of the naughty webshield.

Presumably this isn’t throwing up the old Warning that the Web Shield is Off and when you check it is On ?

We still haven’t found what is responsible for this in all of the time this has been going on. So far on the phone I still have AMS installed this hasn’t occurred since the new UI/AMS program update.

That is exactly what I’m describing.
But now have to use the new “Explore” menu to find out if WEBSHIELD is infact ON or has turned itself OFF unannounced.
I see from another post that same issue continues with later Samsung Android 13.

I have a Samsung phone with Android 13 and I have not see any notice of the web shield being off (early days).

I also have another a Samsung phone with Android 12, I don’t use this generally for browsing, I mainly use it for my daily exercise. On that phone I have uninstalled Avast and installed another free antivirus. So I’m monitoring that to see if there might be any interaction with the Samsung Battery Optimisation function. But with not doing much in the way of internet activity/browsing, this may not present in the same way as Avast/Samsung.

Hi Folks,

AMS version 23.15.0 just being released and “manual updated” is back !

Go to : account > settings > protection > virus database

and aside “version” the run around arrows are back, and it’s working !!!
So game over !

Pat

Sorry friend, I was seeing what you commented, I’m on a newer version 24.11-1004027
This version does not have the option to update the database manually.

Not always great posting to a topic almost 7 months old - that is why you get a warning/notification it is old.

That said, you are wrong, it is possible to manually check/update the Virus Definitions manually.

Go to Account > Settings > Protection > Virus Database > to the right of the Version number there is a Refresh icon and it will check.

Dear friend, I don’t care about old posts, we want to solve the problem, and the forum focuses on solving the problem. That’s why I’m suggesting that the problem exists. Pay attention to the problems that exist below:
1- My friend, we are talking about the way to go there, because everyone knows how to get there.
2- we want Avast not to update automatically, and for users to be able to manually go home and update without the antivirus program doing this for all users.
-3- because what is happening today is that it is updating itself, when we get there it is already updated, which is what we don’t want, we have been talking about this issue for a long time and the avast team has not resolved it since July 2023.

I suggest that you Read the Topic Title that you posted in. "Can’t manually update Virus Definitions anymore? " in the Avast Mobile Security sub forum.

I tire of even bothering to waste time trying to assist you.
