Can't manually update Virus Definitions anymore?

Android user here. I noticed since the newest update with the new layout and stuff, you can’t manually update anymore.

Whenever I go to the place to update it just says the last time the virus definitions were updated but no button to manually do it yourself.

So I guess we’re just relying on faith that Avast will update the virus definitions eventually, since we can’t do it ourselves. Is this right? Or am I missing something?

Hi Folks,

Having the same problem. I was able to update the first time after installation, and not anymore !
On top of that, my Samsung Galaxy S7 - OREO and my J3 - PIE are not getting the daily update automatically, they both stay a the first and last update …
So is there anyone around to give us some advice on that “bug” or a fix to solve the problem.
Thanking you in advance.
Regards.

Hello. My mother also has the new version with a new layout. I have checked the virus definitions which version is there. It seems that avast is now automatically updated without us users being able to update manually. Today is the 12th of July and she has the 12th of the definitions. So I don’t think they are a bug

Regards Peter

Avast team, I have the same problem, you can leave the update option manually, because I always used manual update I feel more comfortable doing this, I don’t like Avast to update automatically.

Are you talking about the Avast Mobile Security or your other topic in the Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security sub-forum ?

As I understand them, the problem concerns Avast mobile security version 23.12.1

Good afternoon, in this case I’m talking to Avast Mobile, because it was supposed to have the option to download the database manually.

Well I have just run an AMS Virus Definitions Update (Avast App > Settings > Updates - Virus definitions version 230713-00 > Check For Updates, it completed successfully and very quickly, reporting that I have the latest definitions. So it is something else rather than what I have posted I haven’t seen that.

There are no Google Play store updates for AMS I have version 23.3.2-511155-

What I want and not perform the automatic update for more than 1 month. can you do that. Because in the computer avast I can.
If you can disable Avast application automatically update for mobile, put the step by step here. Thanks.
I speak about the updating of virus definitions.

Sorry I give up with this exercise in futility, I can’t see why you would want ‘not’ to automatically update the virus definitions “for more than one month”.

There are lots of things which you can’t do in the mobile app compared to the windows antivirus.

I spoke a month as an example but it can be 1 to 3 days. Can you do this on your Avast mobile app?
I do not think so.
So this functionality is missing to the option to choose when you should update the database.

I’m done as this is going nowhere.

You like automatic updates I like manual updates.
Thanks for the chat you had here on the forum, I like to know opinions of people here at the forum.

Hello David,

I’m back on the track … Was abroad for couple of days, sorry …

Avast mobile security version 23.3.2 still have the option “check for update” which can be selected if required; the automatic and manual features work like a charm, as you mentioned.

The problem occurs with Avast mobile security version 23.12.1 and Avast one version 23.12.0, where the “check for update”( manually ) is not available anymore. And it appears that the automatic feature is not processing.

This morning (10:00) my Avast mobile security version 23.3.2 was automatically updated to : 230716 (Jul 16, 2023).
So I checked (10:02 and 15:51) my Avast mobile security version 23.12.1 and Avast one version 23.12.0 - both on different phones , and NO new update available under : account>settings>protection>virus database - Last update 230715-00 - Jul 15, 2023 .

It’s also well to know that right after the installation of both Avast mobile security version 23.12.1 and Avast one version 23.12.0 - both on different phones, the software proposed me to manually update the databases, since the version carried by the installation package were outdated, but I never had that chance anymore since.

Could you pls reconsider your position.
Hope to read from you.
Regards.

Well I hate the new interface - there doesn’t seem to be a way to access what I did previously.

“AMS Virus Definitions Update (Avast App > Settings > Updates - Virus definitions”

It would appear that that Settings has changed to Explore and there appears to be no way to do the Updates I did in Reply #7 above.

To me this seems to be like the dumbed down Windows Avast One. This User Interface is Useless In the Extreme, it doesn’t appear to even have an About where you could find out what version you have.

I have just uninstalled AMS and downloaded again from the App Store and this dumbed down version stinks. It didn’t even place an Icon on the home screen.
So I will probably abandon Avast Mobile Security in the not to distant future, I prefer to be in control of mu programs/apps which is why I came to Avast 20 years ago.

Hi David,

Thks for your feedback. Second shot …
I did install ( and test yesterday ) Avast mobile security version 23.12.1 and Avast one version 23.12.0, one after the other on a Samsung A52 running under Android 11. The automatic database update works fine thru a 4G connection, and I had the Avast icon showing up in the task bar.

So, is the problem link to Android 8, 9 and 10 ?

If you get rid of AMS, what will you go for then ?
Is there any chance to see AMS and Avast one interface corrected or redesigned ?
Regards.

I don’t think it is just the interface it is the underlying functions also.

For me, Avast One has less user configuration than Avast Antivirus, though it has some functions that Avast Antivirus Free hasn’t got.

For me, the reason I came to Avast Antivirus was its user configuration, components I didn’t need or want you didn’t install and those that were installed were configurable. Avast One for me has less configuration and more functions.

This may fine for the majority of users, but not for me, it now seems that Avast Mobile Security for Android is going down the same road as Avast One.

I have yet to choose a replacement android antivirus application, I have two phones one I don’t have a sim in. I use that for tracking my fitness sessions and as a spare, this I can use as my test bed.

+1

Hello David,

I feel the same way …
We gonna wait for the Avast team to do something …
By the way, a new release ( 23.12.1 ) just came out on Jul 14, but I didn’t see any change yet !!!

ESET seems to be a choice, and what’s not bad about it , is that you can analyze / control the SD card inserted in your device as well.

Good morning guys just a new update of Avast Mobile Security 23.14.2-1003553-4682275ee, in this update did not come the option of putting manual update of the database.
Avast team we are waiting for this option.
